Elements of My Perfect Little Notebook
I've been searching for a perfect little notebook for all my needs, most serve the note taking purpose but lacks photo journaling features, GTD elements, or refillable with nice leather covers. I have a passion for Moleskine and Traveler's Notebook, but a product with the combination of their features, in addition to some of my own note taking practice, is difficult to find. So I set out to play with some customizations and adaptations on scrap materials.
- The taste of the cover and inner refills must be something I like, a little raw but refined
- The cover should be interchangeable, preferably leather
- The refills should be replaceable and can be filed away based on topics (journals, business, travel, photos etc)
- The refills should be thin enough to work alone without the cover
- The cover should hold more than one refill
- The size should be bigger than Moleskine pocket size and smaller than Traveler's Notebook
- The size should be in golden ratio
- The refills should hold Polaroids, 3R and 4R photos
- The refills' cover should allow drawing/painting
- Indexing features for filing
- Paper doesn't bleed when used with fountain pen ink
- Paper should be thick enough to allow coloring but not as thick as watercolor paper
- The cover should be able to hold a pen, bookmark and clips
I particularly love the size I created. Perfect for Polaroid and 3R photos. 4R and postcard is a bit tight but still fit. The image above shows some pictures I took during my trip to London last September.
The reason why I put 6 holes there is to allow simple indexing either by 6 months or 6 categories. I hope the notebook will be binded by stitches, which is strong enough for a thin notebook. My next step is to work with a manufacturer whom I will meet in the next few weeks. Imagine stamping the Scription logo with the tag line at the bottom back of the refills, it will be so cool. Now the leather cover is a bit difficult coz I'm not familiar with sewing, I do hope somebody can donate his/her sewing machine to me so that I can play with a lot of stuffs in my mind.

You've got one interested buyer right here! hehe.
Patrick, I HAVE TO visit your shop during my next HK trip! Where is it located?
my question now is, are you putting it on sale? :)
Best of luck - I know this will probably take a lot of hard work . . .
I can't see this feature in the photo. Can you explain how you are doing it?
