Customizing Traveler's Notebook Passport Size with Pocket Insert

I received this great sample of Traveler's Notebook passport size from Midori in end Feb 2009. This product is to be launched in March following the success of its large size version. I've put it into test and made some customization for the exhibition in Tokyo to be held between 19th March and 22nd March 2009 in Spiral Market.

Traveler's Notebook Passport Size

A few things were customized in this passport size notebook: The cover was painted with UNI's POSCA marker following a theme from old Czech propaganda for fire safety. You can see on the cover a fireman squeezing the neck of a fire chicken. POZOR means "Attention!" in Czech. The passport size notebook also comes in various refills for you to choose from, each version's (blank, square, ruled) refill cover resembles a typical passport cover's color. But I didn't like the dull colors so I made my own "passport" cover out of a logo I created, the heading "UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT STATIONERY AND PHOTOGRAPHY" :).

Since Midori's Traveler's Notebook has a flexible refill system, you can add anything you like as long as the size fits. So I made an insert full of pockets so that I can file away my collections during travel. They are classified into 4 categories: Photografie (photograhs), Kvitance (receipts), Znamky (stamps) and Tags (well, tag).

To see what's written inside the notebook itself you have to go to see the exhibition, but here's the details of the pocket insert I made.

You see, if you keep track of what's going on in this blog, you've probably already noticed something big about travel, photography and journaling all along. Hi. Firstly I have to admit you have an amazing blog; way to go!

Well, I don't want to be too ennoying.. but the correct spelling is CZECH (not Cezh). It's written here twice, so I assume it is not a typo.

I'm curious - where did you find those terrific semi-transparent envelope/folders you use to store stamps et al?

And on an unrelated note - while there is a press release announcing the KOLO Essex, it does not yet appear on their website. . .standing by!

thanks for the awesome documentation of your sample passport journal. I own the full sized version, and it has really become a depository for all the different experiences I have from day to day. oh man, I hope they release these babies really soon 'cuz I'm going to buy one as soon as they start selling them! Hopefully I can come up with my own customization for when I receive mine. great photos, and great ideas. thank you for posting them,

Koti, your got yours from where? I had a quick visit to your site and found out about the accident. I can't make out your progress but judging from your post here I'm sure you are a very positive sunshine person, keep it up! And when you say your 'own customization', I know you are doing fine.

Patrick, your posts are so meaty (that is a good thing) I need to put aside more time to really peruse them and soak in all the great info. I love those unqiue and stylish design so much, and just wondering how do you put those "words" and "picutures" on the book.

Thanks for the constant stop by Ugo. Next travel cafe event.... we are just too damn busy for opening up a new store next week, we haven't gotten any time to prepare for this event.... let's see how it will turn out.

Clara, not sure which one you meant. I just print out a design I made on a thick paper for the cover, the rest of the images on the notebooks and tabs are stamps. Tips to come up with ideas? Just grab stuffs you like and stick them on a surface, gradually you will have more ideas, at least about things/patterns you like. I use this method a lot.
