Acidity Test on Traveler's Notebook

I just found that Shanti asked whether Midori's Traveler's Notebook is acid free or not in Dec 2007! She got the notebook as a Christmas gift from her husband and wondered if the notebook can preserve her diary/writing forever.

So I did a test tonight with pH testing pencil and to my surprise....

Well, the paper is acid free but the notebook cover is not! Rest assured that the inside pages of the refill can keep your content in near archival quality, just don't put any important stuffs on the cover or the pages touching the cover if you are meticulous about preservation. Side note: friend at KOLO album told me that in some cases the paper can be acid free in the beginning but as time goes by, the trace lignin inside the paper can make the paper goes yellow and further deteriorate. Wow, Patrick! I've only just seen this post. Well done for checking that out. It's good to know and very interesting that the quality can change over time. OK, I'll keep important things away from the cover. It's just a shame that we can't convince all the ticket and brochure makers around the world to use acid free paper.LOL! I'm always using things like that in my TN:-)

yeah Shanti, especially receipts and plane tickets, they use thermal printing technology so color fade after one year.
